Grand means big, and écran means screen, and basically this is the reason to go to the Grand Ecran. Here one finds the largest screen in Paris, the largest screen in Europe, or the largest screen in the Eastern hemisphere, depending on whom you're talking to. Big-budget blockbusters from Hollywood dominate the bill - seeing them on such a huge screen and with digital stereo sound can be a truly exhilarating experience. It can be equally impressive to see more serious and carefully shot films from the independents, which are shown here more and more these days. Films not in French are usually shown in their original language, but it's worth checking. Two smaller screens in the basement show a wide variety of mainstream and non-mainstream films.
